The demand for electric vehicles is continuously increasing in the Indian auto market. Companies are now increasingly working on fully electric cars as well as the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) segment. PHEVs are vehicles that use both a petrol engine and an electric motor, providing benefits such as better mileage, longer driving range and lower fuel costs. Four new plug-in hybrid SUVs are set to be launched in India in the coming months, including models from companies like BYD, JSW Motors and MG.
BYD Seal U DM-i
BYD is likely to introduce the Sealed U DM-i as its first plug-in hybrid SUV in the Indian market. It is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with two electric motors and an 18.3 kWh battery. The SUV can deliver a total range of over 1,200 km on a full tank and charging, and a claimed range of around 200 km in electric mode. It may have features like a large 15.6-inch touchscreen, 360-degree camera, ADAS and premium sound system.
JSW Jetour T2
JSW Motors is preparing to launch Jetour T2 as its first SUV. It will be a rugged, off-road styled SUV. It may have a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, two electric motors and a 26.7 kWh battery. This SUV can offer a total range of more than 1,000 kilometers. Apart from this, it is expected to get features like 15.6-inch large screen, panoramic sunroof, wireless connectivity and premium audio system.
BYD Leopard 8
If you like powerful and luxurious SUV, then BYD Leopard 8 can be a great option for you. This will be the company’s flagship plug-in hybrid SUV. It will have a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine along with two electric motors and a large battery. Its total driving range can be up to about 1,200 kilometers. It may have high-tech features like triple-screen setup, auto-parking, ADAS, wireless charging and premium audio system.
MG Starlight 560
MG is preparing to launch its first plug-in hybrid SUV, the Starlight 560, in the Indian market. This 7-seater family SUV is expected to be launched around the festive season. It can be provided with a 1.5-litre petrol engine along with an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery. This SUV will be able to run for about 100 kilometers in electric mode only, while its total driving range could be more than 1,100 kilometers. It will have modern features like large touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, panoramic sunroof and automatic climate control.
