New Delhi, 24 September (IANS). Out of the 4.12 crore houses allotted under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (till August 4), a total of 2.82 crore houses have been completed. This information was given by the government in an official document on Wednesday.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), the government initially targeted 2.95 crore houses from FY 2016-17 to FY 2023-24.

In view of the continuous demand for rural housing, the Union Cabinet approved the continuation of the scheme for the next five years (FY 2024-25 to FY 2028-29) with an additional target of 2 crore houses, leading to a total target of 4.95 crores.

The official document said, “As of 4 August 2025, a total target of a total of 4.12 crore houses has been allocated by the Ministry to states and union territories, out of which 3.85 crore houses have been approved and more than 2.82 crore houses have been completed.”

For FY 2025-26 (till July 2025), a total of 32.9 lakh houses were targeted under this scheme, out of which 25.6 lakh houses have already been approved.

In FY 2024-25, the target of home allocation was 84.37 lakhs, out of which 64.70 lakh houses were approved.

According to government data, a total of 216.73 lakh houses were approved over a period of four years from FY 2020-21 to FY 2024-25, of which 176.47 lakh houses have been completed, which reflects continuous progress in housing development.

The scheme provides financial assistance to eligible rural families to build pucca houses with basic facilities, including homeless families and people living in raw houses with zero, one or two rooms. The beneficiaries also get drinking water, LPG, renewable energy and construction materials from the pipe through coordination with other government programs.

PMAY-G has made a significant improvement in rural housing by reducing poverty, improving standard of living and promoting social and economic development, which reflects continuous progress in strengthening rural housing infrastructure.
