New Delhi, July 12 (IANS). In today’s time, everyone wants to make their hair look beautiful and stylish. Whether going to a special occasion or changing their daily look, people make different types of hairstyles. Use of straighteners to straighten hair, curling machines to make them curly, hair dryers to dry hair quickly and extensions to make hair look thick has become common. These things make hair attractive in a few minutes, but if they are not used properly, they can gradually reduce the strength of the hair.
According to dermatologists, the outer layer of the hair called cuticle works to protect the hair. When repeated exposure to high heat, tension or heavy accessories is used, this protective layer begins to weaken, causing hair to become dry, lifeless, weak and prone to breakage.
Hair straighteners, curling irons, and blow dryers are the most commonly used tools. These make the hair look beautiful instantly, but excessive heat reduces the internal moisture of the hair. The natural proteins present in the hair start weakening, which can reduce the shine of the hair and increase the problem of split ends. Hot air from the blow dryer falling directly on the scalp can also increase dryness in the scalp.
Experts say that if it is necessary to use heat styling tools, it is better to apply heat protection product on the hair first. Also, one should avoid increasing the temperature excessively. Instead of using these tools daily, it is important to give natural rest to the hair in between.
The habit of tying hair tightly can also gradually cause damage. Many people have tight ponytails, tight braids, or very pulled back hairstyles for a long time. This causes constant pressure on the hair roots. In medical language, it is called traction alopecia, in which due to repeated pulling, the hair roots become weak and start falling. Especially the hair near the forehead and on the sides can be more affected by this.
While tying hair, it is considered better to use soft cloth hair band or loose hairstyle. Instead of tying hair in the same way every day, adopting different styles reduces the pressure on the hair.
Hair clips and pins can also affect the health of the hair. Using heavy metal clips or pins that are too tight can pull hair and put pressure on the scalp. Doing this for a long time can cause pain, irritation and hair breakage in the scalp. Therefore, using a light and comfortable clip is considered a better option.
Comb also plays an important role in hair health. A comb with too hard teeth or a bad brush can cause excessive hair breakage. It is considered good to use a wide tooth comb to detangle the hair. Also, combs and brushes should be cleaned from time to time, so that the dirt accumulated in them does not harm the hair and scalp.
Nowadays, the trend of hair extension has also increased to make hair look thick and long. However, wearing heavy extensions for a long period of time increases the weight on the hair roots. Due to continuous stretching, hair can become weak and the problem of hair fall can increase. So use lightweight extensions and avoid wearing them for several weeks at a time.
