Chandigarh. City Lawyers and the general public have got relief from the huge problem of parking in the District Court complex located in Sector-43. Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Surya Kant inaugurated the newly constructed 5-storey multilevel parking at a cost of about Rs 40 crore. This modern parking has the capacity to park approximately 1200 cars. During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Justice, Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh Gulab Chand Kataria and Acting Chief Justice of High Court Ashwini Kumar Mishra shared their views.
Chandigarh is my workplace, it is necessary to provide basic facilities: CJI Surya Kant
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Chief Justice Surya Kant said that after being born in Hisar, he has practiced his law on this land, hence this is a very emotional and personal moment for him. Chandigarh has been his workplace. He said that today vehicles are not just a status symbol or a convenience, but have become an essential part of life. People coming to the court are already under mental stress, hence it is very important for them to get proper parking and seating arrangements. Both judges and lawyers are equally important in the justice system, hence lawyers must get basic facilities. Along with this, he appealed to Administrator Kataria that there is a huge shortage of parking in Punjab and Haryana High Court, to solve which the High Court should be expanded or some alternative arrangement should be made.
Heritage has become a big problem for us: Governor Gulab Chand Kataria
Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, while speaking in the program, said that the ‘Heritage Status’ of Chandigarh has become a big problem for the administration. The complexity of the rules is such that even building a small verandah within the court premises requires lengthy approvals from top to bottom. Emphasizing the need to properly utilize the new parking, he said that separate parking arrangements should be ensured for judges and lawyers so that chaos does not spread.
The project was completed due to the efforts of Justice Surya Kant: Acting Chief Justice
Acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Ashwini Kumar Mishra gave full credit for this multi-level parking to Chief Justice Surya Kant. He told that when Justice Surya Kant was the Chairman of the Building Committee, he had prepared the outline of this entire project. Due to his priorities, many more big projects related to judicial infrastructure will also be seen on the ground in the coming days.
