Two leaders of the tribal community have been arrested for gang-raping two girls aged 17 and 25 in Koriya district of Chhattisgarh. Both these girls were left with the accused by their parents.
A case of alleged gang rape of two tribal girls, including a teenage girl, has come to light in Chhattisgarh’s Koriya district. One victim of gangrape is 17 years old, while the other is 25 years old. Based on the complaint, the police have registered an FIR and arrested two accused leaders of the tribal community. Both the victims were having a love affair, which their families did not like. It is alleged that her family had left her with 75-year-old Daroga Singh and his brother-in-law Ramesh Tekam, 56, to separate her from her lovers.
According to the Indian Express report, the 25-year-old victim told in her statement to the police that she had married a person from another caste in April. The victim told that on the instructions of Inspector Singh and Ramesh Tekam, her parents and relatives forcefully brought her back on July 4 and handed her over to them.
Gave medicine to end pregnancy after gangrape
The police officer said that on the pretext of keeping the girl safe, the two allegedly gang-raped her several times on July 4 and also gave her pills to terminate her pregnancy. Meanwhile, somehow she managed to contact her husband, who informed the police and then the police rescued her on July 5.
17 year old victim narrated her ordeal
The police officer said that the same girl had told him that the two accused had also forcibly kept a 17-year-old girl with them. On July 10, we recorded the statement of the minor girl. She told in her statement that both of them had raped her also.
The minor victim said that she was in love with a man from another caste and had eloped with him. Based on the parents’ complaint, the police had arrested the man under the POCSO Act earlier this year. After this the family sent him to the two leaders of the community.
Ramesh Tekam was arrested in 2021 also
Police have registered a case against accused Daroga Singh and Ramesh Tekam under sections of gang rape, aggravated rape, forced abortion, sexual assault on a minor and POCSO Act. Police said that Tekam had already been accused of rape and he was arrested in 2021.
DSP Headquarters Asha Das said that after the FIR was registered, both the accused had gone underground, but we found and arrested both of them on July 19. The court has sent him to judicial custody.
