Piaggio has announced that it is developing a new range of commuter scooters for India. Chairman and MD Diego Graffi revealed that the new range will be launched in the first half of 2027. Graffi said that development is going on in full force and that there will be multiple products under the same brand name with different content and features. So this is a bigger series of projects than a single scooter.

“The mistake we’ve made in the past has been more with scooters, where we haven’t been able to compete with lower-priced vehicle competitors,” Graffey said. “I think we need to be ready and able, let’s say more than ready, to bridge the gap that we have in terms of competition on scooters,” he said. According to Graffi, Piaggio’s Baramati plant near Pune has enough capacity to handle the production of the new scooter range.
Dominance of TVS, Bajaj, Ather
Sales of electric two-wheelers have gained momentum. Their sales graph has increased rapidly during the last few months. Key features of the iQube include smart LED headlamps with DRLs, a raised backrest for the rear occupants, a touchscreen display, and a large 32-litre under-seat storage. The iCube is available with multiple battery options, including 2.2 kWh, 3.1 kWh, 3.5 kWh, and 5.5 kWh packs. It has been introduced in three variants. This includes the iQube, iQube S, and iQube ST. With this, a warranty of 3 years or 50,000 km is also available. Its base variant offers a claimed range of 94Km, while the top-spec ST variant offers a range of up to 212Km on a single charge.
