Terrorist attack on police patrolling party at Lal Chowk in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir. Head constable martyred in indiscriminate firing by vehicle-borne terrorist. The army has cordoned off the area and is continuing its intensive search operation.
On Wednesday, terrorists suddenly attacked a police patrol in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. A head constable on duty lost his life in this cowardly attack. According to initial reports and sources, the attack was carried out by a terrorist traveling in a vehicle who suddenly opened fire on the patrolling police team.
Police officer said that Havildar Ashiq Hussain, who was on security duty of Amarnath Yatra, was injured in the attack and was taken to Government Medical College Hospital, Anantnag. The Resistance Front (TRF), an affiliate of Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post.
The incident took place around 12:30 pm on Wednesday in the crowded Lal Chowk area of Anantnag city. According to information received from sources, the police party was on regular patrolling in the area. Meanwhile, the terrorists who came in a vehicle opened fire indiscriminately targeting the police team.
A head constable on duty was seriously injured in this firing. Fellow soldiers immediately took him to the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Anantnag for treatment, but unfortunately he could not be saved.
Strict action and search operation by security forces
As soon as information about the attack was received, additional contingents of security forces immediately reached the spot to bring the situation under control. Joint teams of police, CRPF and army have tightly cordoned off the entire Lal Chowk and surrounding areas.
All possible escape routes of the vehicle-borne terrorists have been sealed. A large-scale intensive search operation is being conducted in the area to track and arrest the attackers. Security arrangements have been tightened in the valley and high alert has been declared in the entire area. Administration and security agencies are continuously monitoring the situation.
Earlier on Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir Police said that the main accused has been arrested on charges of providing logistics support to foreign terrorists in Kishtwar district. In this case, so far three alleged terror supporters have been arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Kishtwar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Naresh Singh said that Mohammad Rafiq Naik, resident of Dwather village of Singhpur, was arrested from Chatru area. A case was registered against him earlier this year under various sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), UAPA and Arms Act.
