New Delhi. The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General of India Anil Chauhan has said a big thing about the 1962 India and China war. The CDS says that if India had used the Air Force in that war, China’s attacks could have been prevented to a great extent. He also said that the forward policy adopted in 1962 should not have been implemented equally in Ladakh and North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA, current Arunachal Pradesh) because the history of dispute in both these areas and the geographical conditions there were completely different.

CDS Chauhan said these things late Lieutenant General S.K. PP Thorat’s revised autobiography-said in a recorded video message during the release of ‘Revelli to Retreat’. Prior to the Indo-China war, General Thorat was posted as the ‘General Officer Commanding-in-Chief’ of the Eastern Command. CDS Chauhan said that Lieutenant General Thorat wanted to use Indian Air Force during the war with China, however, there was no approval from the then government. CDS said, if the help of the Air Force was taken, it would have given time to the army for preparation.
He further said that I think, the use of the Indian Air Force during the war with China could have been said to increase stress at that time, but today’s current situation is different from it. For some time, both the security situation and the nature of war have changed significantly. Operation Sindoor performed by the Indian Army recently is an accurate example of this. Let us tell you that the Central Government has issued the order of CDS General Anil Chauhan for the next 8 months, issuing the order on 24 September 2025. He will continue as CDS till 30 May 2026 or till the next order comes.
