According to the report of news agency Reuters, initial investigation into the matter has revealed that an employee’s email account was compromised or hacked. Through this route the attacker gained unofficial access to sensitive information. Bank of Baroda has confirmed the incident and said that the matter was related to the email account of an employee. According to the bank, its core banking systems are safe and the attack was stopped in time. The bank has initiated forensic investigation into the matter and is coordinating with the concerned authorities. This means that at present no evidence has emerged that the bank’s main banking system has been directly hacked or that customers’ bank balances have been directly impacted.
