Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has deeply mourned the tragedy of Karur. On Saturday, 39 people were killed and many were injured in a stampede during the rally of actor and TVK (Tamilga Vatri Kazhagam) chief Vijay.
On Sunday, Stalin wrote in an emotional message on X (East Twitter), “Tears of families of those who lost their lives overnight and the pain of crying with their grief have not come out of my heart.”
The Chief Minister announced that compensation of Rs 10 lakh will be given to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh assistance to each person injured.
After this incident, BJP leader K.K. Annamalai accused the Tamil Nadu government and police of negligence. He described the accident as “very shocking” and “highly condemnable”.
Annamalai wrote in the post, “The news of the death of about 40 people, including children from a stampede during Vijay’s rally in Karur, is very sad. Many others are injured and admitted in hospitals. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure proper treatment of all the injured and get full help to the families of the deceased.”
He alleged that power supply was interrupted during the rally, which further increased the chaos. Annamalai said that the police should have arranged adequate force and suitable site by properly estimating the crowd.
The BJP leader demanded that there should be a thorough investigation into the accident, and if there is flaws in the police system or power supply, strict action should be taken against the responsible people.
He said, “The DMK government deploys police of the entire district for the programs of its leaders, but security arrangements in the events of opposition parties are insufficient. It is extremely condemnable.”
