Sugriva and Bali are two powerful characters of Ramayana. Bali was so powerful that he also defeated Ravana. But these two brothers were not born in general, but the story of their birth is very mysterious and symbolic, which is described in the Uttarakand and mythological texts of the Ramayana. This story is not only of birth, but also spiritual change, the pastimes of the gods and the miracles of nature. Story of the birth of Sugriva and Bali.
According to the legend, once a monkey named Rakshraj, who was extremely strong and arrogant, went to bathe in a special lake. There was a curse of Brahma on that lake. So as soon as Raksharaj took a dip, he turned into a very beautiful woman. At that time Indradev and Suryadev were passing through the sky. He saw that female form of Raksharaj and became fascinated. Indra’s vision fell on the woman’s hair from whom Bali was born. At the same time, Suryadev’s vision fell on his neck, which led to the birth of Sugriva. Thus Bali was born from Indra’s part and he was called Indraputra and Sugriva was born from the Sun’s part and he was called Suryaputra.
Later Raksharaj returned as apes and took care of Bali and Sugriva. He created his residence on the Rishyamuk mountain and from there the kingdom kingdom was established. Later, Bali became a symbol of power. The specialty of Bali was that in the war he drew half the power of the opponent, so that no one could defeat him in war. At the same time, qualities like intelligence, policy and religious love in Sugriva came especially from the Sun God. This is the reason that the character of the two brothers is different in the Ramayana. According to the stories, Indra gave Bali a gold necklace, while Suryadev presented Sugriva as a true friend and protector Hanuman ji. The stories also states that Rishi Kashyap and his wife Aruna originated the monkey caste. Many branches of monkeys proceeded with these.
Bali’s slaughter and Sugriva looked very similar to watching. This was the reason that at the time of slaughter, Shri Ram had difficulty in recognizing Sugriva, so he had to put a garland in Sugriva’s neck. Then when Bali and Sugriva clashed again, Lord Rama drove the arrow on the back of a tree. Bali was seriously injured by Lord Rama’s arrow and fell on the ground. He accused Lord Rama of killing him with deceit but Lord Rama said – “O Bali! You took your brother’s wife forcefully, which is unrighteousness. You have no right to get the kingdom because you have violated policy and virtue”. Hearing Ram’s words, Bali calmed down and dedicated his son Angad at the feet of Rama.
