Amrit thoughts: The monastery in the historic Chowk area is not only a major religious place of the capital, but its antiquity and special recognition gives it a different spiritual height. It is believed that this temple was established by Adi Shankaracharya about 2000 years ago.

Mysterious story related to history
During the Mughal period, when temples were being demolished in India, then this temple also faced a crisis. It is believed that at that time the priest of the temple hid in a well to save the idol of Maa Kali. After some time the priest got an order in the dream that the idol be taken out. When the idol was brought out of the well, the idol of Vishnu and Lakshmi ji came out of the mother Kali from there. After this, worship of this idol started, but Roop was considered to be the Kali Maa. Even today, Vishnu and Lakshmi are worshiped in this temple as Maa Kali.
Special event in Navratri
According to the Mahant Swami Vivekananda Giri Maharaj of the monastery, the importance of this temple increases even more during Navratri. Special puja, aarti, fairs and tantric activities are organized here on this occasion. The temple is open from 4 am to 12 pm. The time of Aarti is scheduled at 9 am and 9 pm. Every day the mother’s makeup is done with flowers of different colors. On the day of Navami, Chunaris are donated to girls.
Akhand Jyoti burning for two hundred and fifty years
Two unbroken flames in the temple complex have been burning continuously for about 250 years of one sweet oil and the other desi ghee. It is believed that a person who gets oil or ghee in these lights, gets auspicious results for 40 days.
Tantric actions and service functions
This temple is not only a religious place, but it is also famous for removing upper obstacles and eye defects. Special rituals are performed by Tantric scholars here. On Tuesday and Saturday, a large number of people come to see the eye. Mundan rites of children are also held here.
Streamlined arrangement for devotees
Temple administrator Ramchander Shukla said that separate queues have been arranged for women and men in view of the huge crowd on Navratri and other festivals. Special arrangements have been made for crowd control in the temple premises. Prasad is offered by the priest, not entering the sanctum sanctorum. The temple is equipped with jhalers and attractive decorations.
Devotees gathered in the fifth day of Navratri, Badi Kali Ji temple
On the fifth day of Navratri, a crowd of thousands of devotees gathered to see the mother as soon as the kapat opened in the morning in the Math Shri Badi Kali Ji temple in Chowk. Devotees prayed to the mother and prayed for fulfilling their wishes. Along with this, other temples were crowded in Sankata Temple, Shastri Nagar Durga Temple, Mari Mata Temple, Sandohan temples till late night.
Mahant Swami Vivekananda Giri Maharaj of Badi Kali Ji Math said that the crowd of devotees continued in the temple. Devotees are coming from far and wide to see Mother. Media in-charge Abhay Upadhyay said that every day of Navratri, women devotees are performed with bhajan-kirtan, dhol-mange. Everyday fifty sixes are offered by different families. The sanctum sanctorum was made from marigold, rose, lotus, jasmine flowers and apples, banana, makhana etc. Maharati was performed with cloves and camphor in the morning and night, after which the burnt Lang was distributed as Prasad. It is believed that all the upper obstacles are eliminated by its consumption.
