Mathura: The ancient and years old treasure of the world famous Shri Banke Bihari Temple located in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh is being opened today. This Toshkhana was last opened in the year 1971. This historic step is being taken on the strict instructions of the High Power Management Committee constituted by the Supreme Court, the main objective of which is to prepare the details of the temple property.
Strict security arrangements have been made in the temple premises. Civil judge, members of the temple management committee, forest department officials and senior officials of the district administration are currently present at the spot. To ensure transparency of the entire process, videography of the toshakhana is being done, so that there is no scope for any kind of dispute. Located just below the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, this basement is called ‘Toshakhana’, which was built in 1864.
It is believed that precious jewelery of Lord Banke Bihari, gold and silver coins, golden urn with Navratna, emerald peacock necklace, silver Sheshnag and other historical heritages are preserved in it. However, in 1971, some valuables were transferred to the locker of the State Bank at Bhuteshwar, Mathura.
The eyes of devotees and servants are fixed on this treasure. High Power Committee member Dinesh Goswami said that the process will be conducted with complete transparency, and the property obtained from it will be used in the interest of the temple. According to the temple management, what is left in the Toshkhana will become clear only after its disclosure.
The decision comes following recent reforms in the temple’s darshan system, which has increased accessibility for ordinary devotees by abolishing the VIP pass system. Local Sevayats believe that this step will strengthen the traditions of the temple. A separate announcement will be made by the temple administration for live updates of the process.
