It is believed that it was here that Shiva was suggested the solution of dance to divert Bhasmasur’s attention, during which Bhasmasur himself placed his hand on his head and was reduced to ashes. It is said that the name “Buddheshwar” originated from this story. There is also a local belief that the Shivalinga situated in the temple has appeared on its own and is not man-made. It is also believed that Mother Sita and Lakshman had performed Jalabhishek on this Shivalinga. On the occasion of Mahashivratri, a large number of devotees reach here for darshan.
