According to Drik Panchang, this year the Mahaparva of Chhath Puja will start from the fourth date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month and end on Saptami Tithi. Let’s know about the full dates of Chhath Puja and important rituals related to them.
Chhath Puja 2025: Four days Mahaparva
1. Nahai-Khay (25 October 2025, Saturday): The first day of Chhath Puja is called ‘Nahai-Khay’. On this day, fasting women and men bathe in holy rivers or reservoirs. They then consume satvic food, which includes gourd vegetables, gram dal and rice. This ritual is a symbol of the beginning of the fast and is a way to cleanse the body.
2. Lohanda and Kharna (26 October 2025, Sunday): The second day is known as ‘Lohanda and Kharna’. On this day, fasting women observe Nirjala (without water) throughout the day. In the evening, after worshiping the Sun God, she offers kheer, puri and banana made of jaggery and rice. After receiving this food as offerings, the fasting women start a 36 -hour long Nirjala fast, which lasts for the next two days.
3. Chhath Puja and Sandhya Arghya (27 October 2025, Monday): This is the most important day of Chhath Puja. On this day, the fasting women go to a holy river or pond and give the sun ‘arghya’ to the sinking sun. During this time, they decorate fruits, thekua and other traditional offerings in the soup (bamboo basket) and offer it to the Sun God. This ritual is considered the heart of Chhath Puja. This day has special significance because it is the worship of sunset time, which respects the cycle of nature and life.
4. Usha Arghya and Paran (28 October 2025, Tuesday): Chhath Puja ends on the fourth day, ie on Saptami Tithi. On this day, fasting women reach the banks of the holy river or pond before sunrise in the morning and gives ‘Usha Arghya’ to the rising sun. After offering arghya, the fasting women break their fast by eating offerings and taking water, which is called Paran. The Mahaparva ends with this day.
This festival of Chhath Puja is not only a symbol of faith, but it also shows the importance of nature, sun god and water, which are essential for life. This year too, this festival will be celebrated with great pomp by devotees all over the country.
