In Sanatan Dharma, worship, fasting, story and havan are considered to have special importance. Every rule and tradition has its own importance during religious rituals. One question that often comes to people’s mind is whether the wife should sit on the right or left side of her husband during puja or havan? Many people remain confused about this rule.
According to religious scriptures and traditional beliefs, it is considered auspicious for the wife to sit on the left side of the husband during general puja, fast, katha and havan. Religious and spiritual reasons have been given behind this.
Why does the wife sit on the left?
In religious beliefs, the wife has been called “vamangi”. “Vam” means left side. That is, after marriage, the wife is considered to be half of the husband and her place is said to be on the left side of the husband.
For this reason, when husband and wife sit together during worship and auspicious functions, the wife usually sits on the left side. It is believed that by this one gets the full results of the puja and there is happiness and peace in the family.
When does the wife sit on the right?
However, in some special religious functions and rituals, there is a provision for the wife to sit on the right side of the husband. According to religious scriptures, during Kanyadaan, some special Yagya or Pitru Karma, the wife can sit on the right side of the husband.
But in general puja, Satyanarayan Katha, house warming, fast puja and havan, the wife’s place is considered to be on the left side only.
What is the spiritual belief behind this?
In religious texts, Mother Parvati has been described as the left part of Lord Shiva. On this basis, the wife is considered the left part of the husband. It is believed that when husband and wife worship with correct method and devotion, positive energy is transmitted and God’s blessings are received.
Keep these things in mind during puja
Wear clean and virtuous clothes in worship. Keep your mind calm and positive. Perform the puja ritual with devotion and regularly. It is considered auspicious for both husband and wife to worship together.
Although there may be slight differences in traditions in different regions and families, but according to general religious beliefs, the wife’s place in puja, katha and havan is considered to be on the left side of the husband.
