Mumbai At least four people drowned and 13 others disappeared during immersion of idols following the conclusion of Ganesh festival in various districts of Maharashtra. The police gave this information on Sunday. In this regard, an official said that four people were swept away in different reservoirs in three different incidents in Chakan area of Pune district. He said that two people were swept away in the Bhama river in Vaki Khurd and a shell in Pimplegaon and another person fell into a well in Birwadi of Pune villager.
The official said that the bodies of two of the four people have been recovered so far and the search for the other two is going on. Three people were swept away in a river in Gadegaon in Nanded district. Police said one person was later rescued and the search for the other two is on. He said that four people in Nashik were victims of similar tragedy and the body of one of them was recovered in Sinnar.
Police said three people were swept away in different incidents in Jalgaon and efforts are on to locate them. It said that three people were swept away during the idol immersion in Thane district and a dead body has been recovered so far. According to the police, in another incident, there is a possibility of a person drowning during immersion in Amravati. Officials said that due to continuous rains in different parts of the state, rivers, lakes and other water bodies are in spate, due to which the State Disaster Response Team and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed.
