Ayodhya is not only the birthplace of Lord Shri Ram, but has also been a vibrant center of Indian culture, faith and civilization. Amidst centuries of ups and downs and historical changes, many of its ancient heritages got lost in the dust of time. Edward Tirtha Vivechni Sabha, formed in the year 1902, did the important work of discovering these heritage sites and giving them a new identity. The 148 pilgrimage sites identified by the Sabha are still witnesses to the glorious cultural tradition of Ayodhya. Now efforts for revival and conservation of these ancient sites are moving towards connecting Ayodhya with its Treta Yuga glory.
Ayodhya, which was the center of Sanatan for centuries, got a new identity 125 years ago, when in the year 1902, during the British rule, the British formed the Edward Teerth Vivechni Sabha. The assembly did a very difficult task. Started searching for sites related to the cultural identity of Ayodhya. Explored the pilgrimage sites spread over four districts in and around Ayodhya. Got stone inscriptions installed on them. There would be many places where the vision of the assembly could not reach and stone inscriptions could not be found on them. The Sabha had identified 148 ancient and historical sites of Ayodhya. These are considered under the 84 Kosi Parikrama of Ayodhya. It is said that many religious texts were also used to discover these sites. These are the 148 places whose identity has been mentioned in the Arsh texts. There are still three other such sites, which belong to the same period, but stone inscriptions could not be found on them. In Tretayuga, the glory, dignity and grandeur of these places was greater than today. These places need to be revived. The central and state governments are making efforts for this. Work is going on from the state government to make Ayodhya like Tretayug.
Mahant of Shri Ram Janaki Temple, Satyendra Das Vedanti tells that during the Mughal period, an attempt was made to eliminate the existence of places related to the faith of Hindus. After this, when the British came to power, with the efforts of the people and the administrators of the then government, Edward Teerth Vivechni Sabha was formed. Work was done to revive it. The present government is renovating all these places.
