Amrit Vichar, Lucknow: Gopashtami will be celebrated on Kartik Shukla Paksha Ashtami on 30th October. Astrologer SS Nagpal told that Ashtami will be from 9:23 am on October 29 to 10:6 am on October 30. This day is dedicated to worshiping Mother Cow and expressing gratitude towards her. In Hindu religion, cow is considered the form of goddess. Worshiping cow on Gopashtami brings good luck, prosperity and happiness and peace.
It is believed that 33 crore gods and goddesses reside in the cow. According to the legend, when Lord Krishna reached the sixth year of his life, he insisted to Mother Yashoda that he had now grown up and wanted to go to graze cows. Yashoda sent him to seek permission from Nand Baba, and on the same day Shri Krishna served and worshiped the cows for the first time. That day itself was called Gopashtami. For this reason Shri Krishna was known as Gopal and Govind.
