Many important festivals like Somwar Vrat, Mangala Gauri Vrat, Putrada Ekadashi, Kamika Ekadashi, Hariyali Teej and Nag Panchami are observed throughout this month. Among these, Hariyali Teej has special significance, which is kept with devotion by married women to pray for their husband’s long life, happy married life and unbroken good fortune.

According to religious beliefs, worshiping Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati by fasting without water or fruits on this day maintains love, harmony and stability in marital life. Women do Solah Shringar, apply mehendi on their hands, swing and sing traditional songs of Sawan.

When is Hariyali Teej 2026?

According to the Hindu calendar, Hariyali Teej is celebrated on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Saavan month. In the year 2026, Tritiya Tithi will start on 14th August at 6:46 pm and will continue till 5:28 pm on 15th August. Based on Udaya Tithi, Hariyali Teej fast will be observed on 15 August 2026 (Saturday).

Rules of Hariyali Teej fast

Wearing green or red colored clothes on the day of fasting is considered auspicious. Avoid wearing black, white and brown colored clothes. In many traditions, the rule of observing Nirjala fast has been mentioned. In puja, use the puja material obtained from the maternal home as much as possible. Do not break the fast before the auspicious time. Stay away from disputes, anger and negative thoughts on the day of fasting. There is also a tradition of staying awake at night and singing hymns and kirtans of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati.

Hariyali Teej Puja Method

On the day of Hariyali Teej, wake up in Brahma Muhurta and take bath and wear clean clothes. After this, clean the place of worship and spread clean clothes on the post. Install clay idols of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. If this is not possible then install their idol or picture and worship them.

Offer sixteen makeup items like saree, chunari, vermillion, bindi, mehndi, bangles, kajal and mahwar to Goddess Parvati. At the same time, offer Belpatra, Dhatura, hemp, white flowers, Ganga water, Panchamrit, sandalwood and Akshat to Lord Shiva. After this, listen or recite the Hariyali Teej fast story and in the end perform the aarti of Shiva-Parvati and pray for happiness, prosperity and unbroken good fortune. Next day, break the fast as per the rituals.
