Magh Mela 2026: Huge crowd of devotees at Sangam on Mauni Amavasya, lakhs of people took a dip of faith in Brahma Muhurta.

Prayagraj: Mauni Amavasya, the most important and grand bathing festival of Magh Mela 2026, is being celebrated today on Sunday, 18 January 2026. Since Brahma Muhurta, a huge crowd of devotees has gathered at Triveni Sangam and all the surrounding ghats. Lakhs of devotees are taking the holy dip of faith without caring about the cold and fog.

According to religious beliefs, observing a silent fast on Mauni Amavasya and taking bath and donating, destroys sins and attains special virtues. Yesterday (Saturday) alone, more than 1.5 crore devotees took bath, whereas today is considered to be the biggest bathing festival of the fair. The administration estimates that more than 3 crore devotees can take a dip in the Sangam throughout the day. According to reports so far, more than 50 lakh people have completed the holy bath since morning.

Strong preparations and security arrangements of the administration

The fair administration has made elaborate arrangements to handle this historic crowd:

– More than 3.5 kilometer long bathing ghat has been prepared, in which different ghats have been built in 7 sectors.
– Devotees have been appealed to reach the nearest ghat.
– Tight security arrangements: Thousands of police personnel including water police, NDRF, SDRF, PAC flood company, divers and UP ATS commandos are deployed.
Every corner is being monitored with AI-enabled cameras, drones and CCTV.
– Special vigilance is being taken on suspicious activities.

Uttar Pradesh’s ADG Law and Order Amitabh Yash took stock of the security on the spot. Magh Mela officer Rishi Raj said that all the facilities are available and as the crowd increases, the arrangements will be strengthened accordingly. Police Commissioner Jogendra Kumar and Additional Police Commissioner Ajay Pal Sharma also confirmed that the snan is running smoothly and the safety of devotees is of paramount importance.

Prayagraj DM Manish Kumar Verma and Divisional Commissioner Soumya Aggarwal said that the excitement is visible. Devotees are being shown the right path with the help of reflective tape and civil defense volunteers.

The ghat offers vibrant views of huge crowd of devotees, holy dip and security arrangements. This auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya not only gives freedom from sins but also infuses spiritual peace and new energy.
