Once there came a time in Vrindavan when Nandlal suddenly fell seriously ill. Seeing his illness, an atmosphere of concern spread throughout Braj. Many types of medicines and herbs were tried, but none of the measures were improving Krishna’s health. Everyone was helplessly waiting for a miracle. Then Shri Krishna himself suggested a unique solution. He told the Gopis that if someone, who loved them deeply and was truly concerned about them, washed their feet and gave them that water to drink, they would definitely become healthy.
On hearing this, all the Gopis present there were in deep dilemma. All of them loved Krishna immensely and were completely devoted to him, but no one was able to muster the courage to adopt this solution. There was a fear in the minds of the Gopis that if someone gave water from his feet to Krishna and for some reason he did not get cured, it would be considered a big crime. In such a situation one could have to suffer the punishment of hell. She was worried about Krishna, but her steps were hampered by the thought of possible consequences. Meanwhile Radha reached there.
As soon as he saw his beloved Krishna in that state, his heart became distraught. The Gopis explained to them the solution told by Krishna. Without wasting a moment, Radha washed her feet, prepared Charanamrit from the same water and proceeded to give it to Krishna to drink. Radha knew very well what she was doing. He had the same fear in his mind as the other Gopis, but for him Krishna’s life and health were most important.
Even if she had to go to hell because of her actions, she was ready for it. Worrying about his future was negligible in comparison to his love and dedication. As soon as Krishna took that Charanamrit, his condition immediately started improving and within a short time he became completely healthy. It was the power of Radha’s selfless love and unwavering loyalty that made this miracle possible. This incident proved that true love is the one in which even the worries about one’s own happiness and sorrow are given up for the welfare of the loved one.
