Pradosh Vrat May 2026: When will it be celebrated on 14th or 15th May? Know the correct date according to the Panchang

In Hindu religion, Trayodashi tithi of every month is considered to have special significance for Pradosh Vrat. This fast is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati and is considered extremely fruitful. It is believed that by worshiping Lord Shiva during Pradosh period, all troubles go away and wishes are fulfilled.

There is confusion among the people regarding the first Pradosh fast in the month of May, because according to the Panchang, Trayodashi tithi is falling on both 14th and 15th May. In such a situation, the question is arising that on which day Pradosh Vrat will be observed.

According to the calculations of the Panchang, any fast is determined on the basis of Udaya Tithi and Pradosh Kaal. Pradosh Vrat is especially observed on the day when Trayodashi Tithi falls at the time of sunset (Pradosh Kaal).

According to astrological calculations, if the Trayodashi tithi falls more effectively on 14th May at the time of sunset, then Pradosh Vrat will be observed on 14th May. Whereas if Pradosh Kaal is more prominent on 15th May, then the fast will be observed on 15th May.

According to Panchang experts, the correct determination of Pradosh Vrat depends on the local Panchang and the position of Trayodashi Tithi at the time of sunset. Therefore, due to slight difference in the date at different places, variation can be seen in the date of the fast.

During Pradosh Vrat, devotees perform special worship of Lord Shiva in the evening and after observing the fast, they offer water, milk and Belpatra on Shivalinga. It is believed that the worship done at this time yields manifold results.
