Maryada Purushottam Shriram had built two temples of Lord Shiva. Everyone knows that a temple was built in Rameshwaram on the sea shore. Raghaveshwara Temple is situated near Kanyakumari district. The temple is situated 12 kilometers away from Koil town near Kanyakumari district. Payajhar river flows intermittently near this temple. Shivalinga in the Raghaveshwar temple was also established and worshiped by Lord Rama. Both the temples are very picturesque. There is a legend that after killing the demon Tataka, Ram was guilty of the sin of femicide.
To get rid of this sin, Ram built a temple of Lord Shiva and worshiped him and was freed from the sin of murder. A huge statue of Tadka is built in the hills near Raghaveshwar temple. There are footprints on the stones. It is said that these footprints are of Lord Rama. The surrounding villagers worship Ram by calling it a Shiva temple. Shivalinga and the idol of Mother Parvati are also installed in the Raghaveshwar temple and the idols of Shri Ganesha and Kartikeya are also installed in the same premises. This temple is made of granite stone.
