A saint lived in a village. The saint’s behavior was very simple, knowledgeable, dutiful and calm. Children used to make fun of this behavior of the saint a lot, but the saint never felt bad. Due to this behavior the saint’s nature was famous in the surrounding areas. The village people also brought their problems to the saint and were satisfied with proper guidance. Due to all these behaviour, he was liked by all, both children and old. Once the children thought of something devilish. The children went to the saint’s sister-in-law and provoked her that Saint Baba has got a lot of sugarcane today, but I don’t know whether he will be able to save it for you when he comes to you or not, he has been distributing it to everyone on the way.
The saint’s sister-in-law was a little quarrelsome and irritable, by then the saint reached his hut. The children quickly hid, but Sadhvi became furious after seeing only one sugarcane in the saint’s hands and said angrily that he had brought only one sugarcane, (by snatching the sugarcane) go and distribute it to someone else and threw it away, due to which the sugarcane gets broken into two pieces. Seeing this, the saint said calmly that you also have no answer, how beautifully you have been cut into two equal parts. Come on, I will take a bath and then we will eat sugarcane.
In this way, the Sadhvi’s anger gets calmed by the saint’s behavior and the children run away feeling ashamed of their mischievous nature. On the other hand, when the saint was taking bath in the river, he saw that a baby scorpion was floating in the water. The saint tried to take out the baby scorpion, but the baby scorpion out of nature stings the saint and he fell into the water again with his hand. Seeing this process happening three-four times, the villagers taking bath nearby tell the saint that Baba, a baby scorpion is stinging you and you are bent upon saving it..!!
The saint says very simply that despite being a child of a scorpion, he is not giving up his nature, then why should we give up the nature of humans. We must protect some helpless creatures and then we take out the baby scorpion by holding it in a kamandalu. Therefore, even in difficult circumstances, we should not lose our patience and perform our duties.
