This year the month of Sawan will start from 30th July and end on 28th August i.e. the day of Rakshabandhan. It is believed that in this month Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati live on earth and fulfill every wish of their devotees. According to the scriptures, it is considered very auspicious to bring some special and sacred things to the house before the start of Sawan. It is believed that keeping these auspicious things in the house removes negative energy and Vaastu defects and brings happiness, peace and prosperity in the house. **Parad Shivling (Shivling made of mercury)**
Bringing Parad Shivling (Shivling made of solid mercury) and installing it in the home temple before the start of Sawan is considered very fruitful. According to the scriptures, worshiping Parad Shivalinga gives a thousand times more spiritual virtue. It removes Vaastu defects from the house and brings happiness and peace. Offer water on it every morning in the month of Sawan.
**Pair of silver snakes**
There is a special tradition of worshiping the serpent deity, the ornament of Lord Shiva, in the month of Sawan. Before the start of Sawan, bring home a small pair of silver or copper Naag-Nagin and keep them in your home temple, or offer them at a holy river or Shivalinga. By doing this, Pitra Dosh and Kaalsarp Dosh are removed from the person’s horoscope.
**Damru**
Damru is the favorite musical instrument of Lord Shiva; Its sound spreads positive energy in the universe. Don’t forget to bring a small damru at home before the start of Sawan. Playing Damru after puja in Sawan removes negative energy from the house and reduces the fear of children.
**Ganga water and Belpatra plant**
Ganga water and Belpatra are the most essential things for the anointment and worship of Lord Shiva during Sawan. Bring home fresh Ganga water in a brass or copper vessel. Also, if possible, plant a Belpatra plant in your courtyard or balcony before the start of the month of Sawan. By doing this there will never be any shortage of wealth or happiness and prosperity in the house.
Rudraksh
Rudraksha is believed to have originated from the tears of Lord Shiva. It is considered very auspicious to bring one-mukhi or five-mukhi Rudraksha into the house before Sawan. Keeping or wearing it at home reduces mental stress, provides relief from heart related diseases and brings positive thoughts.
Important work to be done at home before Sawan
– Keep the main door and north-east corner of the house clean.
– Remove broken things or dirty water from the house and courtyard.
– Clean the puja place (home temple) and install a beautiful picture or idol of Shiva family.
