Bhalchandra Sankashti Chaturthi 2026
Chaturthi Tithi Start: March 6, 2026 at 5:53 pm
Chaturthi date ends: March 7, 2026 at 7:17 pm
According to the Hindu calendar, Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month is known as Bhalchandra Sankashti. On this special day, ‘Bhalchandra’ form of Lord Ganesha is worshipped. Bhalchandra means one who has the moon sitting on his forehead. According to religious beliefs, this fast is considered an excellent way to overcome even the biggest difficulties of life. With the blessings of Lord Ganesha, all the major wishes of the devotees are fulfilled and life goes on smoothly.
In the scriptures, there is a rule to observe this fast continuously for 4 or 13 years and on completion, perform a ritual called Udyapan (end of the fast). The Chaturthi on which the moon rises is chosen for the fast. If the moon rises for two days, it is best to observe a fast on the first day. The Chaturthi that comes after the full moon is called Sankashti and the Chaturthi that comes after the new moon is called Vinayak Chaturthi. This fast gives hope in difficult times.
