Motihari: The world’s largest “Sahastra Shiva Lingam”, which started 47 days ago from Pattikadu in Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu, has completed the journey of 2225 kilometers and reached Kaithawalia in East Champaran in Bihar. ‘Sahastra Shiva Lingam’ will be installed on an 18 feet high pedestal and approximately 15 feet base structure in the temple premises on January 17, 2026.

This ‘Sahastra Shiva Lingam’ has been carved over 10 years from a single black granite stone in Pattikadu village of Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu. The ‘Sahastra Shiva Lingam’, 33 feet high and weighing 210 metric tonnes (210,000 kg) was loaded on a 96 wheeler special truck on 21 November 2025 and sent from Mahabalipuram to Kaithwalia, Bihar for Virat Ramayana Temple, which successfully reached Kaithwalia on Tuesday, 06 January 2026, the 47th day. The shapes of 1008 small Shivalingas have been carved on the ‘Sahastra Shiva Lingam’ prepared by the tireless work of architect Loknath of Vinayak Venkatraman’s company.

Shayan Kunal, trustee of this Virat Ramayana temple being constructed under Mahavir Mandir Trust, Patna, said that ‘Sahastra Shiva Lingam’ has reached the temple premises. It will be installed on an 18 feet high pedestal and 15 feet base structure by the Dharmacharyas with Vedic rituals on 17 January 2026. He said that the date of consecration of this ‘Lingam’ will be decided later.”

Acharya Shivananda Brahmachari alias Vanchaspati Mishra told from “Univarta” about the importance of “Sahastra Shiva Lingam” that ‘Sahastra Shiva Lingam’ means thousands of Shiva Lingams, which is a symbol of the infinite form of Lord Shiva, the vastness of the universe, and his formless nature. It represents the various qualities and forms of Shiva like ‘Sahasranama’, where ‘Sahasra’ means ‘thousand’ and the Linga itself is a symbol of creation, power and ultimate truth, which encompasses the universe.

He said that this is a proud moment for the entire Bihar, when we are seeing our adored Devadhidev Shri Mahadev being installed together in the form of ‘Sahastra’ on the holy land of Champaran. It is noteworthy that Late was a former Indian Police Service officer and the founder of many institutions including Mahavir Temple, Patna. Acharya Kishore Kunal had dreamed of establishing the world’s largest Virat Ramayana temple in Kaithwalia, Champaran.

He started the construction of the temple by acquiring land during his lifetime. Coincidentally, he died before the construction of the temple was completed. After the death of his father, his son Shayan Kunal took the entire responsibility of the construction and continued the construction. The size of this huge temple will also be very grand. This temple is being built 1080 feet long, 580 feet wide and 270 feet high. 22 temples and 18 peaks will be constructed in the temple complex spread over a total of 123 acres, which is targeted to be completed by 2030.
