All major carmakers like Volkswagen, Skoda, Hyundai and Honda are preparing to launch their new models in the midsize segment next year.
SUVs like the new Tata Sierra, new Kia Seltos, new Renault Duster and Maruti’s first electric car e-Vitara are currently grabbing the limelight in the midsize car segment. But in the coming few months, the focus is going to shift to sedan cars. Four new midsize sedans will be launched next year in the price range of Rs 10 to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
Firstly, the facelifted model of Hyundai Verna, which was launched in March 2023, may arrive as early as the second quarter of 2026. The design of the new Verna will be sharper and sportier than before, which will be inspired by the 8th generation Sonata. The pictures have confirmed that the 2026 Hyundai Verna will get a new front bumper, updated split headlamps and a new front grille. Apart from this, new design will also be seen in 16-inch new alloy wheels, connected tail lamps and rear bumper.
Talking about the cabin, it will be provided with two large 12.3-inch displays, which will work on the new CCNC operating system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are expected to come as standard, with no adapter required. Engine and gearbox options are likely to remain the same as the current model.
The facelift of Skoda Slavia will be launched in the second half of the year, after which the updated version of Volkswagen Virtus will also be launched. Both Volkswagen Group sedans will see cosmetic changes, which may include new bumper design, updated headlamps and taillamps, new grille and new 16-inch alloy wheels.
The 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the interior may come with major software updates and new features. Apart from this, advanced safety features like better reverse parking camera and level-2 ADAS are also expected. The Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus will retain their existing engine options and continue with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, although the 6-speed automatic may be replaced by a new 8-speed automatic gearbox, which will be manufactured in India.
The second facelift of the fifth generation Honda City is also expected to be launched in the second half of the year. However, major changes are unlikely as it is to be replaced by a completely new model in 2028. Minor updates may include new grille and bumpers, new 16-inch alloy wheels and some new color options.
