Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Toyota, Renault and Nissan will soon launch their new models in the midsize SUV segment.
With the beginning of the new calendar year, there is tremendous activity in the midsize SUV segment. Many new models have been launched in the last few months and in the coming weeks the competition is going to become even tougher with the arrival of new SUVs from Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Toyota, Renault and Nissan in the market. The special thing is that along with petrol-diesel, electric and hybrid options are also increasing rapidly in this segment.
1. Tata Sierra EV
The new Tata Sierra has made a great debut in petrol and diesel avatars. With a starting price of Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the SUV received over 70,000 reservations in just 24 hours of bookings opening. Seeing this tremendous response, Tata is now preparing to launch the all-electric Sierra EV, which will be introduced by next month. The Sierra EV is expected to get two battery options, with the larger battery pack likely to be shared with the Harrier EV. With this, a single charge can provide a range of more than 500 km. It is likely to have features like fast charging, triple-screen dashboard, panoramic sunroof and level-2 ADAS.
2. New Renault Duster
Renault is preparing to launch its next-generation Duster next month. This SUV will be based on a new localized modular platform. The new Duster will be offered in three engine options, with the Turbo TCe 100 engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as the entry-level variant. The Turbo TCe 160 engine delivers 163 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque and will be available with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed wet-clutch DCT. A 1.8-litre strong hybrid version will also be added later. Due to its powerful design, long feature list and better safety, the new Duster is expected to make a big impact in the market.
3.Nissan Tekton
Built on the same platform as the new Duster, Nissan Tecton will create a distinct identity in terms of design. Its look will be inspired by Global Patrol, which will have a simple but muscular stance. Engine and gearbox options will be the same as the Duster. It is expected to go on sale in the coming weeks.
4. Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara
With e-Vitara, Maruti Suzuki is going to enter the fully electric passenger car segment. It will have two battery options of 49 kWh and 61 kWh, with the larger pack giving an ARAI-certified range of up to 543 km. This SUV will be built on the new Heartect-e platform and has also received a 5-star safety rating in India NCAP. Features will include a large touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, level-2 ADAS and ventilated seats.
5. Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella
Toyota’s urban cruiser Abella will also be based on the e-Vitara platform, but its exterior design is different and more futuristic. This SUV can be launched next month. Overall, customers will have more choices than ever before in the midsize SUV segment in the coming months with new models, new technology and different powertrain options.
