Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has issued a stern warning on the frequent fire incidents in electric two-wheelers. He said that the government will soon come out with ‘quality-centric’ guidelines for electric vehicle companies. Along with this, he has also warned companies about heavy fines for any kind of negligence. Let us tell you that in the last few weeks, more than a dozen electric two-wheelers of companies like Ola Electric to Pure EV, Jitendra EV and Okinawa have caught fire. So far, at least three people have died in separate accidents when electric two-wheelers caught fire.
The Minister said that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has constituted a special committee to look into the problems faced in manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the country. This committee will also give necessary suggestions if needed. Gadkari has also advised EV companies to identify defective vehicles and recall them without waiting for the ministry’s guidelines.

In a series of tweets, Gadkari said that in the last two months, several accidents involving electric two-wheelers have come to the fore. “We have constituted an expert committee to investigate and prevent these incidents. Based on the reports, we will issue necessary orders on the negligent companies.

Pure EV recalls 2000 scooters
Electric scooter company Pure EV has expressed deep regret over the explosion in the battery of an electric scooter. An 80-year-old man from Nizamabad was killed in this blast. With this, the company has decided to recall 2,000 vehicles. In a statement, the company expressed its condolences to the victim’s family and said that it is trying to get more details from the concerned user and the authorities.
