Hyundai is going to introduce many new hybrid models in the coming few years and here we have told about three of them.

Toyota has almost dominated the hybrid SUV market in India for the last few years. Hyder, Innova HyCross and Maruti Suzuki models together account for about 80 percent of hybrid passenger vehicle sales in the country. Now Hyundai is preparing to change this situation and the company is planning to launch three new hybrid SUVs in different segments and prices.

These new hybrid SUVs are expected to be launched in the next 2 to 3 years. The most important model among these will be the new generation Creta, whose internal codename is SX3. It can be launched around 2027. The new Creta will be based on a new platform, allowing Hyundai to make major changes to its design and proportions.

Better quality materials and new technology will be seen in the cabin of the new Creta. With this, the existing petrol, turbo petrol and diesel engine options may continue, while the biggest new change will be in the form of hybrid variants. More than 2 lakh units of Creta were sold in FY26 and it became the only midsize SUV in the country to do so. In such a situation, its hybrid version can have a big impact in the market.

The Ni1i, a new 7-seater SUV to be positioned between the Alcazar and Tucson in Hyundai’s lineup, is also in development. It is expected to be launched by the end of 2027. It will get a hybrid setup of 1.5-litre petrol engine, which may also have an EV-only mode for low-speed city driving. The same hybrid powertrain can also be used in the next generation Creta and Kia Seltos in future.

Hyundai is also considering bringing the Palisade Hybrid to India, the most premium part of the lineup. It can be launched around 2028. In the global market, this SUV comes with turbo petrol engine and electric motor and can be positioned at the top of Hyundai’s Indian lineup.

Representational

While Creta will cover the midsize SUV segment, Ni1i will enter the three-row SUV space and Palisade will strengthen the company’s presence in the premium segment. It is clear that Hyundai is working towards creating a strong hybrid SUV portfolio in India. In the coming time, competition in the hybrid market may become more interesting with the participation of new technologies and more companies.
