The Indian auto industry is slowly recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, as automakers have started reporting positive sales growth. While Maruti and Hyundai posted negative sales growth, Tata Motors and Mahindra posted huge positive sales growth.
While Tata Motors currently holds the position of the third largest carmaker with 12.14% market share, Mahindra has secured the fourth position with 7.40% market share. Mahindra’s sales stood at 27,386 units in March 2022, a year-on-year growth of 65%. Mahindra sold 6,924 units, 6,061 units and 6,040 units of Bolero, Scorpio and XUV700 respectively.
The new Mahindra XUV700 has also become the best selling model in its segment. The SUV is offered in 5 and 7-seat options. It manages to beat two popular mid-size SUVs from Tata – Harrier and Safari. Tata Motors sold 2,491 units of Harrier and 2,227 units of Safari SUV in March 2022. Combined sales of Harrier and Safari stand at 4,718 units, while Mahindra sold 6,040 units of XUV700.
Mahindra XUV 700 Details
The XUV700 has received an overwhelming response from the buyers, as it has registered over 1 lakh bookings in the market. The SUV currently commands a waiting period of over 1 year.
The new Mahindra XUV700 is offered with two engine options – a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel and a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol. The petrol engine produces 200bhp and 380Nm of torque, while the diesel engine is offered in two modes – 155bhp/360Nm for the MX trim and 185bhp/420Nm (450Nm with AT) with the AdrenoX AX trim. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The diesel engine offers 4 driving modes – Zip, Zap, Zoom and Custom.
