Volkswagen India has announced that it has started production of its Virtus sedan car for launch in India at its Chakan factory in Maharashtra. Its sales in India will start in May. The Vertus will be available with two engine options, and will rival many sedans like the Maruti Ciaz.

The Skoda Vertus MQB is based on the A0 IN platform. The Vertus will come with two turbo-petrol engine options. These include a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI unit making 115hp and 175Nm as well as a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI unit that makes 150hp and 250Nm.
The new Vertus will be available in two different variant lines. The Dynamic line, which includes all 1.0 TSI variants, and the Performance line, which includes all 1.5 TSI variants. Two gearbox options will be available on the 1.0 TSI variant – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Its 1.5 TSI will only come with a 7-speed DCT gearbox.

Features
Talking about the features, the Vertus will get a 10-inch touch-screen infotainment system, 8-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, connected car tech, ventilated front seats, sunroof, ambient lighting, cooled glovebox and auto headlamps. Tire pressure monitor, six airbags, ESC and hill-hold control will be given in its higher variants. The GT variant will get red detailing, red stitching and aluminum pedals on the dashboard for sporty appeal.

Volkswagen India started accepting bookings for the Vertus on March 8. It will be launched in the month of May. Once launched, it will rival the Skoda Slavia as well as other mid-size sedans like Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz.
