Maruti Suzuki has taken this step to provide relief from increased prices to customers buying Alto, WagonR, S-Presso and Celerio.

Maruti Suzuki has launched a new scheme to save customers from rising prices of some of its cheapest cars. The company aims to maintain customer interest in the small car segment, which seems to be gaining momentum again in recent months. Alto K10, WagonR, Celerio and S-Presso have been included under this scheme.

The company has announced that customers who book these models before June 14, 2026, will not have to face the impact of the recently implemented price increase. That means they will get the vehicle only at the price decided at the time of booking. Maruti Suzuki says that demand in the small car segment has started increasing again, which has given the company an increase of about 300 to 400 basis points in market share.

While the SUV segment continues to be strong, entry-level hatchbacks are still the first choice for customers transitioning from a two-wheeler to a car. Compared to premium cars, the impact of price is more in the small car segment. Even a small increase in on-road price or EMI can impact the purchasing decision of many customers. Keeping this in mind, the company has decided to protect the buyers of its cheapest models from price increase.

Recently, Maruti Suzuki had increased the prices of vehicles available across its portfolio by up to Rs 30,000. Rising raw material prices, inflation and increase in operating costs have been cited as the main reasons for this. WagonR is the best selling car among the models included in this scheme. It is available in 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines as well as a factory-fitted CNG option. WagonR consistently remains among the best selling cars in the country.

Whereas Alto K10 is the most affordable car of the company. It has a 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine, which gives a power of 67 hp. It is available in both manual and AMT transmission options. Whereas Celerio has been placed between Alto K10 and WagonR. It is known for its great mileage and is available in CNG option along with 1.0-litre petrol engine.

The S-Presso is targeted at customers who want a high driving position and SUV-like looks. Its design is different and bolder than other hatchback models. Even though automobile companies today are focusing more on SUVs, hybrid and electric vehicles, the small car segment still remains very important in terms of sales and this new initiative by Maruti Suzuki reflects this.
