According to a recent report, Royal Enfield is now preparing to launch a more affordable Himalayan 440 based on the Scram 440.
Royal Enfield’s Himalayan 450 was launched in late 2023 and proved to be a major turning point for the company. It is built on new technology and has many new features like liquid-cooled engine, ride-by-wire, TFT screen and different riding modes, which are much better than the old Himalayan 411.
But since its price is more than Rs 3 lakh, it does not come in everyone’s budget. Its price has increased in the last few years due to many reasons, one of the major reasons being that it has been kept in a higher tax slab under GST 2.0.This is where the Himalayan 411 made its mark. Launched in 2016, this bike was known for its simplicity, strength and affordable price.
It was discontinued after about 7 years in 2023, but Royal Enfield did not completely eliminate its platform and introduced the Scram 440 on the same basis. It has a 443cc air/oil-cooled engine and 6-speed gearbox, making the bike more powerful than before, but still feels easy to drive.
Now the news is that the company is working on a new and more affordable adventure bike, which can be called Himalayan 440. Its codename is said to be D4G and it can be launched in the second half of this year. This bike will fill the gap between the old 411 and the new 450.
In design, it will keep the same strong and simple look as before, but new colors and some small changes can be seen in it. It is expected to get a 443cc engine, which will give about 25.4 hp power and 34 Nm torque, which is slightly more than 411. Also, it will get 6-speed gearbox, which will provide better driving on the highway.
Additionally, the suspension can be upgraded for better off-roading and it can be equipped with 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels with dual-purpose tyres. Among the features, there is a possibility of switchable ABS and Tripper navigation. Its price can be around Rs 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a good option for many people.
