The new Tata Sierra gets a 1.5 liter turbo petrol engine that produces 160 PS of power and 255 Nm of torque, and comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Tata Motors has said that the new Sierra has made a place in the India Book of Records by giving the highest mileage in 12 hours. In this test conducted at the NATRAX test track in Indore, Sierra achieved an impressive mileage of 29.9 kmpl, surpassing the previous national record.
This continuous drive was done by the Pixel Motion team on 30 November 2025. He drove from 7 am to 7 pm, with short scheduled breaks only to change drivers. Officials validated the records the same day. The vehicle used in the test drive was powered by Tata Motors’ new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo petrol engine.
The company says that this engine has been designed to give more mileage than before, but still there is no reduction in its smoothness, ease of operation and power. The combustion process of its engine has been well set, the torque is also available in a good range and the friction inside the engine has been reduced. This is why the Sierra performed consistently well throughout the 12-hour drive.
This record was not limited to mileage only. In a separate test conducted on the same test track, the Sierra achieved a top speed of 222 km/h under controlled conditions. Which clearly shows the power and capability of Tata’s Hyperion engine. Tata Motors has clearly stated that for customer safety, the top speed of their vehicles will be electronically limited to 190 km/h.
The company said that these tests of mileage and top speed have been done only by trained professional drivers at special, safe and controlled places. Therefore common people should not try to drive so fast or drive like that, as it can be dangerous.
The new midsize SUV also has a 1.5 liter natural petrol engine and a 1.5 liter diesel engine. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, 6-speed torque converter automatic and a 7-speed dual clutch automatic unit. The new Sierra has achieved a 5-star rating in the India NCAP crash test and is based on the modular ARGOS platform. Its starting price is Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
