Tesla Model Y can now travel 39 kilometers more on a single charge, and the best part is that there has been no increase in its price
Tesla has quietly released a significant upgrade for the Model Y in India, just a month after deliveries began on September 5. The company has improved the range of electric vehicles without making any changes in the price. Of the two variants of Model Y available in India, Standard Range RWD and Long Range RWD, Tesla has increased the range of the top configuration from 622 km to 661 km.
The company quotes range figures in our market under WLTP, which is more stringent than India’s MIDC. The upgraded Model Y Long Range RWD supports charging up to 250 kW and gives a range of up to 267 km in 15 minutes, just like the old model. Originally, Tesla fitted the Model Y with a 79 kWh battery pack.
Now the company has increased its range by 39 km by using an 84.2 kWh battery pack with new LG-made cells with higher energy density and efficiency. It still uses the same motor which enables this electric car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and its maximum speed is 201 km/h.
Tesla has not made any changes to the standard range RWD of Model Y in India. The base configuration offers a range of 500 km, takes 5.9 seconds to accelerate from 0-100 km/h, and has a top speed of 201 km/h, the same as the top configuration. It can be charged up to 175 kW and gives a range of 238 km when charged in 15 minutes.
The Standard Range RWD variant of Model Y is priced at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and the Long Range RWD variant is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Tesla sells it through dealerships based in Mumbai and Delhi, although it is also taking online orders through its website and door-to-door delivery of cars across India.
Tesla has equipped the Model Y with features like 19-inch Crossflow wheels, power tailgate, 15.4-inch front touchscreen, 8-inch rear touchscreen, ventilated, heated and power reclining front seats, heated and power-folding rear seats, five USB Type-C ports with output up to 65 watts, and panoramic glass roof. Features are given. Full-self driving (FSD) is available for an additional Rs six lakh.
