German automaker Volkswagen has recalled more than 2 lakh units of one of its SUVs. The company has taken this decision due to the possible problem of airbags in its Atlas SUV. According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), about 222,892 units are part of the recall order. Documents suggest that the problem is related to the side airbags of the SUV.
According to the report, the airbag will open with a slight delay from its scheduled time, due to which there may be a risk to the safety of the passengers. The vehicles that have been affected have been manufactured between October 2019 and February 2022. Owners of potentially affected models are being asked to check if there is an airbag warning on the display of the vehicle.

Apart from the airbag problem, the vehicle’s electronic parking brake suddenly engages at speeds below 1.8 mph and its windows are automatically lowered. This problem is due to corrosion in the wiring of the vehicle. VW doesn’t have a solution yet, but owners will be notified as a solution becomes available. Owners of vehicles that have this problem may notice that the airbag warning light stays on.
