Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will come with strong hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains in India, while there will be no diesel engine in it.
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ debuted in Japan last week and was also showcased by the company at the ongoing 2025 Japan Mobility Show. Now, Autocar India reports that the Land Cruiser FJ will be launched in India during the festive season of 2028, which is exactly three years away from now. Although Toyota had said that deliveries of the new SUV will begin in Japan by mid-2026, people in India will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the Land Cruiser FJ.
This SUV is built on the IMV platform like Fortuner and Hilux. The new FJ measures just over 4.5 meters in length and shares its design cues with the larger Land Cruiser Prado, with a boxy shape and upright, powerful looks. Its version coming to India will be available with strong hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines. Diesel engine will not be provided in it.
Its width is 1,855 mm, height is 1,960 mm and wheelbase is 2,580 mm. It has two rows of seats, in which five people can sit comfortably. Despite being compact in size, this SUV is said to be quite capable for off-roading. Its ground clearance is 215 mm and turning radius is 5.5 meters.
Some of its special design features include removable heavy bumper, side cladding, C-shaped lights and rear-mounted external spare wheel. Its round headlamps are inspired by the old Land Cruiser models, giving it a classic look. For safety, it has been provided with Toyota Safety Sense System, which provides many advanced safety features including Pre-Collision Safety System.
Talking about the cabin, its design is very similar to Land Cruiser Prado. It has round AC vents, large grab handles, and physical buttons and switches, which give it a rugged look. The center console houses a 12.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while the digital instrument cluster looks quite simple. The materials used in the seats, upholstery and dashboard are not premium but feel durable and sturdy, which is suitable for off-roading.
The Land Cruiser FJ is powered by a 2.7 liter 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 161 bhp of maximum power and 246 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox which sends power to all four wheels through a part-time four-wheel drive (4WD) system. It will be the entry-level model in the Land Cruiser line-up.
