TVS’s new 160cc maxi-scooter will get a new 160cc liquid-cooled engine, which will compete with the Yamaha Aerox 155.
TVS Motor Company is preparing to expand its scooter portfolio. According to reports, the company is currently working on a new 160cc maxi-scooter. This new model will be positioned above the existing Ntorq 125 and Ntorq 150 and could potentially become TVS’s most powerful scooter to date.
This scooter is expected to be launched next year. In the Indian market, it will compete with premium maxi-scooters like Yamaha Aerox 155, Hero Xoom 160 and the upcoming Honda ADV 160 and Yamaha NMax 155. Talking about the design, the new scooter may be inspired by the design philosophy of the Ntorq series, but it may have a premium maxi-scooter style.
It is likely to get larger bodywork, wide front apron, stepped seat, tall windscreen and a more comfortable riding position. The biggest feature of maxi-scooters is the comfort they provide in long distance travel and scooter-like practicality, which TVS can highlight in its new model.

For the powertrain, it is expected to get a new liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with a capacity of around 160cc. Although the company has not yet shared official specifications, this engine can produce around 15 to 18 hp of power and 14 to 16 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a CVT automatic transmission.
This scooter can also be quite advanced in terms of features. It is likely to have features like fully digital TFT instrument cluster, Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, call and message alerts, ride statistics and multiple riding modes. Apart from this, TVS can also provide premium features like traction control, dual-channel ABS and smart key system.
The new scooter may be based on larger wheels and a stronger chassis. It is likely to get telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear, although a rear monoshock setup can also be provided. Disc brakes are expected to be available on both wheels. Keeping practicality in mind, it can be given large under-seat storage, USB charging port, adequate floorboard space and wide seat.
Apart from this, options like top box, windscreen extension and luggage accessories can also be made available for customers who like touring. Talking about the price, the starting ex-showroom price of this new 160cc maxi-scooter can be between Rs 1.40 lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh. If TVS launches it at an aggressive price, it could prove to be a very important product for the company in the coming years.
