Hero MotoCorp maintains its number-1 position in the two-wheeler segment by selling 57.5 lakh units in the year 2025.

The performance of the domestic two-wheeler market in the year 2025 has been balanced but encouraging. After many years the market has crossed the sales mark of 2 crore units. According to SIAM data, total domestic two-wheeler sales stood at over 2 crore units, registering a growth of 5 per cent over the previous year. However, despite this progress, the industry is still operating below the peak of 21 million units achieved in 2018.

While domestic demand was strong, foreign markets played a more important role in determining the year’s results. Two-wheeler exports recorded a strong growth of 24.2 percent and reached an all-time high of 49.4 lakh units. The main reasons for this growth were increasing demand from African markets, continued buying from South Asia and improving demand for motorcycles globally.

Talking about the performance of the companies, Hero MotoCorp maintained its leadership with the delivery of 57.5 lakh units in 2025, although the company’s growth was limited to only 2 percent. At the same time, TVS Motor Company recorded the fastest growth and its sales increased by 15.7 percent with the total volume reaching 39.8 lakh units.

The purchasing trends of consumers were seen changing in 2025. Demand remained normal in rural areas, while cities saw a greater increase in sales. Especially in cities, scooter sales were faster than motorcycles, due to the increasing income of people and easy loan and finance facilities.

Apart from this, buying cars has become cheaper than before due to reduction in taxes in GST 2.0, relief in income tax and reduction in repo rates. Due to these reasons, sales increased during the festive season, especially in metro cities, and provided good support to retail demand in the second half of the year. New models are expected to be launched in almost all segments in 2026.

This momentum may continue in 2026 due to the increasing demand for adventure bikes in India and the expansion of the entry-level segment. Also, the export push in the passenger vehicle and two-wheeler sector is now at a record level, which is expected to lead to the launch of new models of global standards in India.
