In the West Bengal elections, the people of the state have once again made Mamata Banerjee victorious and have handed over the command of the state to her. Country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior BJP leaders did not fare well in front of Mamata and ultimately Mamata Banerjee won. In this post we will know 7 main reasons for Mamta’s victory.
1. BJP not announcing Chief Ministerial candidate
This was a big reason for Mamata’s victory – BJP did not declare anyone as its chief ministerial candidate in the Bengal elections. The reason for doing this was the lack of big leaders in BJP in West Bengal. There were some names like Dilip Ghosh but he was not able to stand in front of Mamata Banerjee.
2. Clean and honest image of Mamta
TMC had the face of Mamata Banerjee whose image is that of a clean and honest leader. Even though TMC was criticized, it did not affect Mamata’s image and she retained her popularity.
3. The issue of being an outsider
The next big reason for Mamata’s victory is the issue of Bengalis and outsiders. Mamata capitalized on this issue well and continuously attacked BJP saying that BJP is bringing outsiders to Bengal. If BJP wins the elections then people from outside will run Bengal.
4. The vote bank of Congress and CPM went with Mamata.
The next reason for Mamata’s victory was the vote bank of Congress and CPM going in favor of Mamata. These parties had internally supported Mamata and thus TMC’s vote share increased so much that it became impossible for BJP to compete with it.
5. Politics of polarization
The strategy of polarization politics did not suit BJP. BJP consolidated Hindu votes in many places but TMC got more benefits. This happened because, on the one hand, Muslim votes went to a united Mamata, and on the other hand, BJP did not get the benefit of Hindu polarization as per its expectation.
6. Benefits of Mamata government schemes
One of the major reasons for Mamata’s victory was the various welfare schemes run by the Mamata government in which cash was provided to the people by the government. These schemes became very popular and went in his favour. BJP attacked TMC regarding cut money and tola money in these schemes, but the people of Bengal expressed confidence in Didi.
7. Personal Comments and Any Slogans
All the senior leaders of BJP made personal comments on Mamata Banerjee. Even people holding constitutional posts, such as the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, repeatedly commented on a Chief Minister holding another constitutional post. BJP also had to suffer the consequences of this. TMC’s slogan ‘Khela Howe’, which is an excerpt from a song composed by a TMC worker, also played an important role in Didi’s victory.
