New Delhi, January 4 (). Defense experts have described the US capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife as the result of months of strategic preparation. Defense matters expert Commander (retired) GJ Singh has termed this entire military operation as a major failure of Venezuela’s defense system.
Speaking to , he said that this action was not taken suddenly, but preparations for it were going on for the last four to five months. America had started its military deployment in the region from the month of September itself. Under this, America had deployed the world’s newest, most modern and powerful aircraft carrier USS Gerald R Ford with its entire battle group. This was clearly indicating that America was preparing for a major military operation.
He said that if we look at America’s past military operations, it becomes clear that America has been relying on local support instead of directly landing large-scale ground forces in any country. Citing the example of Afghanistan, he said that even there America maintained a limited military presence and the forces on the ground were local forces or people who were standing against their own government.
According to defense experts, this US military operation conducted in Venezuela was very successful from a technical and strategic point of view. He said that targeted bombing was carried out within just half an hour. Soon after, American forces reached the place where President Maduro was staying. With the help of helicopters, commandos were landed and they were arrested with utmost precision.
He termed Venezuela’s air defense system and the entire defense system as a complete failure. He said that he believed that the entire defense system of the country collapsed during this period. Even when the President was being taken out of one of the most secure locations in the country, the Venezuelan military or security agencies completely failed to respond effectively.
He said that the protection of any country’s sovereignty depends on its military and security system, and this incident has raised serious questions on Venezuela’s defense capabilities.
