Amritsar . Announcing a major success, Punjab Police said that Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a module involved in smuggling of illegal weapons from across the border. Three accused have been arrested in this action. Whereas, a minor is also being detained and interrogated. During the search, seven advanced pistols, 12 live cartridges and a motorcycle were recovered. Police said that initial investigation revealed that the accused had links with smugglers based in Pakistan through social media. Through this, illegal weapons were being smuggled into India in the border areas of Attari sector. The recovered arms and cartridges were taken from pre-determined locations and supplied to local criminal networks in Punjab.
In this case, an FIR has been registered in Chheharta police station, Amritsar under the provisions of the Arms Act. The police are investigating to trace and dismantle the entire smuggling network. Officials say that this action will not only stop arms smuggling, but will also ensure security at the local and national level.
At the same time, the police also clarified that strict action will continue against illegal arms smuggling, organized crime and anti-national activities in Punjab. Police say that they will continue to take strict action against such criminals under the zero-tolerance policy.
Police officials have also appealed to the common citizens to immediately report any suspicious activity. Apart from this, the police is continuously increasing surveillance in the border areas and making efforts to detect such modules before they become active.
Police say that such campaigns will continue in the coming times, so that illegal activities can be rooted out and Punjab can be made safe.
