Amritsar, October 14 (). Punjab Police achieved major success against organized crime in the state. In a major operation, State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar has arrested three persons and recovered a huge cache of weapons from them.
Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the recovered weapons included one AK-47 rifle, its two magazines and 60 live cartridges, three 9 mm Glock pistols, seven magazines and 50 live cartridges. Punjab Police claims that this action has proved to be a significant breakthrough against the arms smuggling network operating in the state.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arms consignment was procured from Pakistan and smuggled in by US-based Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi. It is believed that this network is part of a larger gang operating from abroad, which provides weapons to gangsters and criminals operating in Punjab through cross-border arms smuggling.
DGP Gaurav Yadav in a post on social media platform The recovered weapons included 1 AK-47 rifle, 2 AK-47 magazines, 60 live cartridges, three 9 mm Glock pistols, 7 magazines and 50 live cartridges.
The DGP further wrote in the post, “Preliminary investigation has revealed that the consignment was arranged by US-based Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi from Pakistan. The investigation is ongoing to identify the smugglers, trace back and forth links and dismantle the entire smuggling network. Punjab Police remains steadfast in its commitment to root out organized crime and ensure peace and harmony across the state.”
