Governor S Abdul Nazeer hoisted the national flag at the main government function on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day celebrations. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, ministers, High Court judges and farmers who gave their land for the capital city project were among the guests. At the ceremony held near the High Court building, the Governor took the salute from 11 contingents of the Indian Army, Special Police, CRPF, Kerala Armed Police, NCC, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Youth Red Cross and other organisations.
A total of 22 tableaux were displayed showcasing different development and welfare initiatives of the state government. The tableaux showcased programs like Zero Poverty, Population Management, Skilling and Employment, Water Security, Farmer-Agri Tech, Global-Best Logistics, Cost Optimization in Energy, Product Perfection, Swachh Andhra and Deep Tech in all walks of life.
The Republic Day celebrations in the leftover state of Andhra Pradesh are being held in Vijayawada, where the official residence of the Governor is located, since the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.
The ceremony was held in Amaravati at a time when the development work of the capital city is in full swing and a bill to grant statutory status to Amaravati as the permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh is also to be introduced in the upcoming budget session of the Parliament.
The TDP-led NDA government had last year restarted the capital development works after five years of uncertainty due to the proposal of three state capitals by the then YSR Congress Party government.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who had launched the Amaravati project during his previous tenure as chief minister (2014-19), has resumed the work after the TDP-led NDA came to power.
In the TDP parliamentary party meeting on Sunday, the Chief Minister had said that construction work in Amravati has been expedited and the second phase of Amravati development will also start soon.
