Andhra Pradesh: YSRCP leaders protest outside DGP office in protest against the murder of Dalit activist.

Amravati. YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders in Andhra Pradesh staged a protest in front of the DGP office after not being allowed to meet the Director General of Police (DGP) to lodge a complaint in the brutal murder of party Dalit worker Manda Salman. YSRCP leaders allege that they were not allowed to meet DGP Harish Kumar Gupta, due to which they were forced to protest. Later an additional DGP accepted his complaint. Former minister Merugu Nagarjuna termed Salman’s murder as a “government sponsored murder” and demanded a CBI probe into the case. He alleged that the police not only did not register a proper FIR for murder but shockingly registered a case against the deceased Salman himself.
He said that initially the party leaders were not even allowed to see Salman’s body. The police took action when YSRCP president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy himself announced his arrival for the last rites. Nagarjuna raised questions about what is happening in the state, where even serious crimes against women and children are not being registered and ‘Red Book rule’ is being implemented in place of the Constitution.
Former MLA Kasu Mahesh Reddy said that Andhra Pradesh has moved towards complete anarchy. He alleged that even after the murder of the Dalit activist, the police did not take action against the accused and instead registered a case against the deceased. He also said that Salman’s family was prevented from performing the last rites as per religious customs and was even asked for Aadhaar card for the burial. He announced that YSRCP will approach the High Court through a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in this matter and will continue the struggle until justice is given.
Former minister T.J.R. Sudhakar Babu alleged that YSRCP leaders were insulted in the DGP office. He raised questions whether the DGP was working for the public or as an agent of Chandrababu Naidu. Referring to the attacks on Dalits, he demanded a compensation of Rs 1 crore to Salman’s family and action against MLA Yarapatineni Srinivas Rao.
Former minister Viddala Rajini accused the police of ignoring constitutional duties and serving Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh. He said there is no security for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and minorities, TDP goons are committing murders and even common citizens cannot enter police stations without political clearance.
MLC Monditoka Arun Kumar said the murder of the Dalit activist has exposed the real face of the government and called on Dalits to unite against the so-called “barbaric rule”.
Former minister Ambati Rambabu said that the attitude of the police in this matter has been very controversial. He alleged that repeated attempts to lodge complaints were ignored and the leaders were forced to stage a sit-in. He demanded a high-level investigation and immediate relief to Salman’s family.
