Information about a suicide attack has come to light in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. A suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a police station in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to official sources. At least 12 policemen were killed in the incident, while several others were injured.

Sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Xinhua news agency that the attack targeted a police station in Bannu district at 8:55 pm local time on Saturday. There was huge damage at that place in this blast.

Sources further said, “Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) fitted in the vehicle were used in the attack. This was followed by an attack with a quadcopter drone and then a ground attack by the militants.”

Officials said that with the help of heavy machinery, the rescue team is engaged in removing debris and relief work at the site. Officials fear that more bodies may still be buried under the debris.

According to sources, the bomb disposal squad estimates that 1,200 to 1,500 kg of explosives were used in the attack.

A militant organization named Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan (IMP) has claimed responsibility for the bomb blast through social media platforms.

Pakistan has seen a significant increase in such attacks in recent months amid ongoing tension along the Afghanistan border on the one hand and the Balochistan region on the other.

There has been an increase in militant attacks in the north-western areas bordering Afghanistan. Security personnel and law and order related agencies are especially being targeted in these attacks.

Earlier on Friday, Pakistani security forces claimed to have killed five terrorists in two separate intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Four terrorists of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were killed in a fierce exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists during an operation in Tank district, the army’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

In another operation conducted in Dera Ismail Khan district, security forces killed a terrorist during an encounter, the statement said.

ISPR said that arms and ammunition were also recovered from the slain terrorists. These terrorists were allegedly involved in several terrorist activities in the area.
