Chandigarh. Punjab Police claims to have busted a gang involved in smuggling of illegal weapons and explosives. According to the police, the counter intelligence team of Amritsar took action and arrested three accused. Six hand grenades and 12 pistols have been recovered from their possession. Sharing the information on its social media platform ‘X’, Punjab Police said that this action was taken as part of the operation to maintain peace and security in the state. According to the police, initial investigation has revealed that the arrested accused were working on the instructions of an arms smuggler sitting abroad. Police said that this smuggler present abroad was allegedly supported by Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and people associated with the banned organization Babbar Khalsa International operating abroad. According to the investigating agencies, these weapons and explosives were sent with the aim of spreading unrest in Punjab.
A case has been registered in this matter at the State Special Operation Cell Police Station, Amritsar. The police have initiated action against the accused under the Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act and relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS).
According to police officials, the investigation of the case is still going on. The investigating agencies are trying to find out who else are involved in this network and how the entire network of arms supply was being operated.
Punjab Police said that maintaining security in the state is its priority. Police also said that continuous action is being taken against terrorist and criminal networks operating from across the border and all necessary steps are being taken to stop such elements.
At present the arrested accused are being interrogated and further action will be taken on the basis of investigation.
